Stills from season 2. Doh! I can assure you there weren't many photos to use for this. Studios give labels a group of approved stills. Anything outside of that means getting actor/estate approvals which can take forever to approve for a show that is off the air. Not making excuses but just educating. | | | | | | | Posted: | Jun 26, 2020-5:29 AM | | | By: | ryanpaquet(Member) | Got mine in the post today and il be surprised if no one has mentioned it yet but...this is a release of music from season 1 of the show and what stills do Varese put in the booklet? Thanks for the update Bryon, this makes sense. I hope it's selling well! Happy to see it get coverage on The Second Disc yesterday too! https://theseconddisc.com/2020/06/25/soundtrack-watch-quartets-new-thing-varese-dives-deep-with-seaquest-dsv-and-the-running-man/ | | | | | | | | | | Posted: | Jun 26, 2020-2:21 PM | | | By: | GOLDSMITHDAKING(Member) | Got mine in the post today and il be surprised if no one has mentioned it yet but...this is a release of music from season 1 of the show and what stills do Varese put in the booklet? So for some reason they had the approval of every actor except the ones that did not appear in season 2? And i find it hard to believe they were able to get the music for season 1 but no images. Also a little proofreading would have gone a long way. | | | | | | | Posted: | Jun 26, 2020-2:33 PM | | | By: | JGouse0498(Member) | So for some reason they had the approval of every actor except the ones that did not appear in season 2? And i find it hard to believe they were able to get the music for season 1 but no images That's entirely possible. Stephanie Beacham (Dr. Westphalen) and Stacy Haiduk (Lt. Hitchco*ck) both quit the show when it relocated to Florida for season two. The rest of the non-returning cast was let go because NBC wanted to go younger. That kind of experience may have left a bad taste in their mouths. And if even one of them politely said "piss off" to likeness approvals (or maybe not politely...who knows), that nixes any full crew photos. Music has nothing to do with the actors and actresses. Also a little proofreading would have gone a long way. Agreed. It isn't difficult to attribute tracks to the correct episodes. When I tag my tracks in MP3 on TV shows, I always put the episode title first so I know where I'm at musically (e.g. - "Knight of Shadows: The Possession of Kristin"). I know there's at least one board member here who likes to have episode-specific art for each track (probably for reasons similar to mine). | | | | | | | Posted: | Jun 26, 2020-2:56 PM | | | By: | BryonDavis(Member) | Got mine in the post today and il be surprised if no one has mentioned it yet but...this is a release of music from season 1 of the show and what stills do Varese put in the booklet? Studios work with preapproved stills for media etc. Anything not preapproved has to get new approvals. Believe me, don't believe me. We got a few b&w photos in that set strangely. I will repeat this. The older the show, the less likely studios have a ton of assets to use. We wanted to use an image of an actor from a cancelled show on a prior project. The actors rep said no. Another project the actor wanted 5000 dollars for a photo not preapproved. On another the actor wanted 10k. This release was a four year journey. We are hoping to do a volume 2. | | | | | | | Posted: | Jun 26, 2020-2:59 PM | | | By: | Seajay4600(Member) | Got mine in the post today and il be surprised if no one has mentioned it yet but...this is a release of music from season 1 of the show and what stills do Varese put in the booklet? Thank you for the in-depth explanation, Byron. It is very much appreciated. Some of those prices are absolutely crazy! Hollywood is a strange, strange place sometimes, it seems. I'll admit: it's surprising that a Spielberg show doesn't have a lot of materials to use, but that's just my layman's perception. I truly hope the sales are strong enough for a second volume. I'd love to see Season 2 material get covered. Judging from the response to the music on this thread, it's a safe bet you've already got some locked-in sales | | | | | | | | | | Posted: | Jun 26, 2020-3:35 PM | | | By: | JGouse0498(Member) | This release was a four year journey. We are hoping to do a volume 2. I do have one last question though, Bryon. Maybe you can answer it. Maybe you can't (for one reason or another)... The TV version of the main theme (with the chorus). If this was a four year project, then I can't imagine that leaving it off the set was an oversight. Was there a legal/royalties/etc. issue that kept it from being remastered and included? Honestly, the old one from Google, iTunes, etc. just doesn't cut it quality-wise next to this set. Hopefully it can get included on Volume 2 *fingers crossed* Again, thank you for the insight into the process. | | | | | | | | | | Posted: | Jun 26, 2020-4:02 PM | | | By: | JGouse0498(Member) | Hey JGouse, I don't know if you're maybe a victim of autocorrect on this, but his name is "Bryon" (like maybe a spelling variant of "Brian"? I'm not certain). Not "Byron", the famous British poet (and lover, lol...) Yavar Umm...oops...I guess? Duly noted. | | | | | | | Posted: | Jun 27, 2020-3:01 PM | | | By: | GoblinScore(Member) | My RUNNING MAN stopped by today. A glance at the notes show "8 DX-7s" used for the Sub-Zero music, linked through a Yamaha piece of Midi gear. If I could post a field of hearts like a teenage girl here...I would. But Madrelbot (SIC) would chastise me.... If you REALLY want excellent VS/Naxos packaging....buy a vinyl in your order. Secure as hell, my package today from Spring Cleaning that included two vinyls. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Posted: | Jun 30, 2020-4:55 PM | | | By: | JGouse0498(Member) | My copy seems to be lost. It left San Francisco 6 days ago to make the arduous 15-mile trek to my town. I'll give it another couple of weeks to show up. In the meantime this release poses a dilemma -- I don't know the show at all. But I loved the original release and had it on my list of titles I wanted to see expanded. So now it is! But...can I take it off my expansion list now? Or are there still volumes of music worth releasing? More of the same would get tiresome and I don't need every note if this release really is a sufficient representation. A representation I'm dying to here!! But if it's like Orville, where yes the 2-CD set is great, but we desperately need season two released, then I'll keep it on my list. I can say that the music on Disc 2 is definitely not repetitive. This is a well-curated album. Also, realistically, I can't see there being more than two volumes for this show. Therefore, I'd say this release is a good representation of Debney. Volume 2 will hopefully be a good representation for Don Davis' music. If there IS a third volume, then that should be the Russ Landau album. So, in my opinion, keep it on your list, Roger And I wish you the best of luck in your order finding its way to you! | | | | | | | Posted: | Jul 1, 2020-8:59 AM | | | By: | Roger Feigelson(Member) | My copy seems to be lost. I think Shirley Walker's Mask of the Phantasm is magnificent. And the LaLaLand expansion stunning. And the 2-CDs worth of music on vol. 1 of the animated series is fantastic. But when I put on vol. 2 I felt unmotivated. Not that there's anything wrong with the music, but I assumed I was just saturated at that point. So I stuck with Phantasm and Vol. 1. | | | | | | | | | | Posted: | Jul 2, 2020-6:09 AM | | | By: | ryanpaquet(Member) | Or are there still volumes of music worth releasing? I would say it's very similar to the Orville - I specifically bought the Orville album because I thought it sounded like seaQuest! Davis wrote some great stuff in season 1 including an emmy nomiated score, and an Emmy winning score for Season 2. Debney also had some additional great moments in season 1 - personally I'd love the Debney score for the finale of S1. | | | | | | General Discussion: | | First Post |
